Alerts & Regressions
Monitor regression alerts for score drops and resolve issues before they impact your rankings.
What Are Regression Alerts?
Regression alerts are notifications that fire when your SEO or GEO scores drop significantly between scans. They act as an early warning system, letting you know when something has changed on your site that could hurt your search visibility.
Alerts are generated automatically by comparing your latest scan results against previous scans. If a notable decline is detected, Align creates an alert and surfaces it in your dashboard.
Alert Types
Align generates three types of regression alerts, each targeting a different kind of problem:
- Score drops — Your SEO score has decreased compared to the previous scan. This typically means new issues were introduced or existing content was modified in a way that hurt optimization.
- GEO regression — Your GEO score has decreased, indicating reduced AI readiness. This could be caused by changes to structured data, removal of
llms.txt, or degraded content structure. - Issue reappearance — An issue that was previously fixed by a merged PR has returned. This often happens when a deploy or build process overwrites the fix.
Viewing Alerts
Alerts appear in two places within the Align dashboard:
- Overview tab — Up to 3 of your most recent alerts are displayed at the top of the Overview tab, giving you immediate visibility when you open the dashboard.
- Growth tab timeline — All alerts appear as events in the Growth Analytics timeline, alongside scan completions and PR merges.
Each alert card shows the alert type, the affected score or issue, the magnitude of the change, and the date it was detected.
Resolving Alerts
When you have investigated an alert and taken action (or determined it does not require action), you can resolve it. Click the resolve button on the alert card to mark it as handled.
Once resolved, the alert is removed from the active alerts list and will not reappear for the same issue. If the same problem occurs again in a future scan, a new alert will be created.
Resolving an alert does not fix the underlying problem — it simply acknowledges that you are aware of it. To actually fix the issue, you should create a PR or make the necessary changes manually.
Taking Action
When an alert fires, here is a recommended workflow for investigating and resolving it:
- Run a new scan — Get fresh data to confirm the regression is still present.
- Check what changed — Review the scan results to identify which specific issues are causing the score drop.
- Create a PR — Select the relevant issues and create a pull request to fix the regressions.
- Resolve the alert — Once you have taken action, mark the alert as resolved.
If the regression was caused by external factors (like a competitor improving their content), the alert serves as a signal to investigate your competitive position using the Competitor Analysis tools.
Alert Requirement
Regression alerts require an Agency plan ($149/mo). This feature is not available on the Free or Pro plans.
Agency plan subscribers receive alerts for all their connected sites. Alerts are generated automatically and do not need to be configured manually.
For more details on plan features, see the Plans & Pricing page.
